Gan Alon Days

 Inside Gan Alon preschool

Our indoor play space is new, purpose-built, large, bright and airy. It is air-conditioned, with integrated toilets, and its own kitchen and food halls.

Our indoor play areas have been specifically designed to promote social adeptness, communication skills and physical health. These areas allow children to progress and develop at their own pace – and this is something we at Gan Alon put particular emphasis on. Every child, whatever stage they’re at, will find themselves challenged and stimulated here.

Our belief in allowing children to develop their own strengths at their own pace means that children leave Gan Alon self-confident, with all the tools they need to embrace the full challenge of primary education.

“Children have fun and they enjoy the atmosphere and the positive relationships they have with staff and their friends.” Ofsted, 2019

 Outside at Gan Alon

Our grassy, fully landscaped outdoor play area includes a challenging playground, a mud kitchen, a builders’ yard, a woodwork bench and an area for ball games and water play.

There’s no distinction between indoor and outdoor play spaces – the doors to the outside area are always open, and children move organically between the two.

We want our children to be outdoors at least half the morning: running, climbing and breathing fresh air. Pre-School children need to challenge their muscles and build their physical strength at every opportunity. But this doesn’t need to come at a cost to learning. Everything in our outdoor space has been designed specifically to reflect and reinforce the learning that’s taking place indoors.

We believe so strongly in the benefits of being outdoors at every opportunity that we’ve constructed a canopied area, which ensures that wet weather is never an obstacle to outdoor play.

“Staff are excellent role models for children… They speak sensitively to children and support their social and emotional wellbeing extremely well.” Ofsted, 2019

Being Jewish at Gan Alon preschool

As part of New North London Synagogue, we want being Jewish to be fun. So we bring out the joy in Judaism through songs, stories, food and celebrations. We focus on Israel and teaching children modern Hebrew.  Our children are taught Judaism in a positive, imaginative way, free from indoctrination. Our aim is to give children the foundations of Jewish learning, so that the rituals of Judaism become a natural part of their vocabulary.

But we are also aware that our children are growing up in a multicultural city, and we recognise and learn about festivals from different religions and traditions as well.

“We want the children to absorb the rhythms of the Jewish week and year as part of their happy early memories. We want the tastes, sights, sounds and songs of Judaism  to be an integrated, natural part of their experience of life. Gan Alon achieves this beautifully.” - Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, NNLS
